Apple cider vinegar has been around forever, but it has never been as popular as it is today. It is now being credited with numerous health benefits, from weight loss to helping fight infections. Some even claim that apple cider vinegar can boost hair growth.

Why Apple Cider Vinegar?

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Block DHT?

The use of vinegar has been used for thousands of years, dating back to Hippocrates, to fight infections. He recommended using it for sores and ulcers. It is also shown to have microbial properties. So what is apple cider vinegar? It is made from the fermentation of smashed or pulverized apples. The sugar is broken down and turned into alcohol by the yeast, then the bacteria converts the alcohol to acid, resulting in vinegar.

Since it has been used for over 2,000 years to heal wounds and fight infections, many are stating that it’s a miracle cure. Unfortunately, there haven’t been enough studies to prove how effective apple cider vinegar truly is. What we do know is that no, it has not been proven to block DHT, however, it can improve scalp health and boost hair growth!

How it Helps

Many people have begun to rinse their hair with apple cider vinegar and for good reason. It can help improve your overall hair health by the following things:

Rebalance Scalp and Hair pH Levels

Your hair should ideally be between the pH level of 4 and 5, but many shampoos can disrupt your pH level. These commercial products tend to create high alkalinity, which can lead to breakage and dryness. When you rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar, the high acidity will help maintain your hair and scalp to the proper pH, creating stronger, smoother, shinier hair.

Smooths Hair Cuticles

If you regularly suffer from tangles and knots, adding the natural acidity of apple cider vinegar can help reduce these and also help with frizz!

Dandruff, Itchy, and Dry Scalps Treated!

Many dermatologists have suggested that apple cider vinegar is an anti-inflammatory with antimicrobial properties. This can help combat irritation that causes the build-up of dead skin cells. Flaking and itching could be a thing of the past when you use apple cider vinegar for your dandruff or scalp conditions.

How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar

It is well known that a healthy scalp can boost hair growth. When you use apple cider vinegar to improve the quality of your hair and scalp, you won’t be blocking the DHT, but you will be providing a prime environment for healthy hair growth.

To begin, it’s important to remember that you want to maintain a balanced pH. If you overuse apple cider vinegar, you can create a more acidic atmosphere, which will not help your hair growth. That is why you should only use an apple cider vinegar rinse three times a week at most.

First, start by mixing four tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with eight ounces of warm water. Combine in a squeeze bottle. After shampooing, apply the mixture to your hair. Massage it into your scalp and throughout your strands, be sure to pay extra attention to the ends as well.

After you’ve let it sit for a few minutes, you have a few options. You can leave the rinse on your hair or you can rinse the vinegar out. IF you leave it on, you will continue to see the benefits like limiting tangles and knots.

Don’t worry, the vinegar smell will go away once your hair dries.
