Does Pumpkin Seed Oil Block Dht

DHT is the condensed version of the word Dihydrotestosterone. That mouthful of a word is the hormone in males that increases throughout their bodies as they age. A rise in DHT affects the hair follicle in the dermal papilla, the part that is responsible for growth. So when a male is facing male pattern baldness, the reason is general from an increase in DHT.

There are products that have been on the market for ages like Rogaine. Alongside it, the other two most common products known to help hair loss are Propecia and Folexin (you can buy Folexin as low as $18/mo here). But not included in that list is the natural remedy of Pumpkin Seed Oil. But does it really work?

The Science Behind It

Although there have been no studies fully supporting that Pumpkin Seed Oil can prevent hair loss, a study in 2014 showed that men with male pattern baldness who took a pumpkin seed supplement had 30% more hair growth than the participants who took the placebo. While this might sound like amazing news, pumpkin seeds weren’t tested alone. They were mixed with other materials like corn silk powder and tomato powder. And while 30% hair growth might seem like a wonderful improvement, the study was small and only included 100 men.

What we do know is that pumpkin seed oil contains delta-7-sterol, a steroid. This steroid competes with the DHT at the receptor sites of hair follicles and has been shown to block the buildup of DHT and preventing it from damaging the cells.

Pumpkin seed oil is also full of beta-sitosterol, antioxidants, and fatty acids, which are also beneficial for helping hair growth.
