Jojoba Oil for Hair Growth: Our Analysis

Jojoba Oil For Hair Growth

Produced as a liquid from the seeds of the Simmondsia Chinesis plant (also commonly referred to as the Jojoba plant), this liquid has been utilized by Native American for years to treat wounds and sores. This golden clear liquid substance can be odorless if refined or has a slightly nutty odor if unrefined. Not only has it been used in the application of wound healing, but it has also suddenly found itself expanding on the cosmetic market and can be seen in products such as moisturizers, shampoos, and conditioners. However, the oil itself is also able to be utilized on the hair, skin, and other parts of the body. But does it work for hair growth?

Full of Vitamins and Minerals

The oil from Jojoba is full of vitamins and minerals that are known for their many benefits for nourishing hair. This includes vitamins B, C, E, and copper and zinc. The oil has been shown to be a homeopathic dandruff remedy, and because it has the ability to strengthen hair with its nourishment, it can also prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

The reason for this is because the oil is utilized to moisturize the hair follicles, which will put an end to the dryness that is a source of hair loss.

How to Use Jojoba Oil

There are a few different ways that you can utilize jojoba oil with your hair growth treatment plan. The first is to find products like these shampoos and conditioners that already have the oil in them.

The second option is to purchase the jojoba oil of your choice and apply it directly to your scalp and hair. To do so, follow these steps:

  • The oil is easier to apply if warm, so rub the bottle between your hands, or put it in a pot or microwave-safe bowl. Be sure not to overheat it. This could cause burning to your scalp.
  • Once the oil is at the desired temperature, apply one to two tablespoons of the product to your scalp, then work the oil down through the tips of your hair. Shorter hair will need a smaller amount, longer hair will need a larger quantity.
  • After you have left the oil in for twenty minutes, shampoo and condition your hair like usual and rinse thoroughly.

Does the Research Back Jojoba Oil?

Because this product is so new to the hair care market, there is not a lot of research behind it to back the product in its entirety. There are many claims stating that jojoba oil can strengthen your hair and treat a dry, itchy scalp, but this is not fully supported in research yet.

Our Suggestion

Because this is not fully backed by studies, we do not feel that jojoba oil should be counted on as a treatment for baldness, alopecia, or other disorders that cause hair loss.

However, the vitamins and minerals found in jojoba oil do provide wonderful options for those looking to improve their dry scalp and improve the strength and silkiness of their hair. If you are looking for a way to enhance the condition of your hair, adding jojoba oil to your daily routine would absolutely be worth a try. Just be sure to take it with a grain of salt and not expect immediate overnight results.
