Even though baldness isn’t as popular in women as in men, the effects psychologically happen to be significantly greater.
In Goshen, a new procedure is being utilized to make women bring back their once beautiful hair, and this is way ahead compared to the old fashion hair plugs.
Originally from South Bend, Judith Goodkin journeyed to her new Toronto residence to deal with her depressing problem with baldness that she’s been struggling with for a long time.
Goodkin says, “Hair for women is a kind of very sexy, society accepted thing and lots of women my age are suffering from thinning hair.”
In reality, 40% of American hair loss victims are women, usually realizing it in their forties and fifties. That is exactly why Goodkin travels to Peers Cosmetics located in Goshen where Dr. Chris Peers claims transplantation of hair has substantially changed.
“We all remember the doll hair look of hair plugs, and to this day, people still think hair transplant is plugs.” Says Dr. Peers.
Dr. Peers traveled to Los Angeles to attend training on a hair loss procedure referred to as Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. He reveals a lot of Hollywood celebrities are using it as a precautionary action and it has made hair plugs obsolete.
Dr. Peers says, “We now transplant one hair at a time.”
The procedure will only need a local anesthetic as Dr. Peers takes out a little hair strip from the backside of Goodkin’s head, which is currently concealed by her own hair. After that, Tatiana and Vida, his assistants, meticulously spend several hours separating every hair.
“What I do is I trim those slivers separating them into one follicular unit, two, and three.” Tatiana explains.
Dr. Peers also said, “It’s natural, the appearance is indistinguishable from our own natural hair.”
Good thing Goodkin brought a book to read because she will go through approximately eight hours process. She shared her experience saying, “I slept through it. That was the only portion that I was worried about. I napped.”
With sufficient follicles of hair separated, Tatiana and Dr. Peers numb the region on Goodkin’s head where they’ll be working.
Completely numb, Tatiana and Dr. Peers begin transplant on Goodkin, inserting the hair in a slope it would typically develop and creating incisions with a small pin-like tool. Within the following year her hair should fully grow.
Goodkin is sick and tired of dealing with hair powder and extensions and says she’s not splitting hairs on the span of time it should take to develop.
“I plan on remaining in the competitive working world for at least another five years, so three months, six months is certainly not a major portion of that.” Says Goodkin.
For the time being she says she will wear some wonderful hats, but eventually she will be saying farewell to depressing hair loss forever. The only doctor doing this procedure in the area is Dr. Peers, which he also says works perfectly on men. He says while Rogaine and Propecia decelerate the process of hair loss, they will not make your hair grow back.
The price of the procedure will depend on the region being filled. In the case of Goodkin, it cost her around $4,500. Dr. Peers states the rate of failure is really low and the hair will continue to grow for your entire life.
